EmiD Passes the 30,000 Kilometer Mark

The EmiD vehicle fleet has been available to the project partners for about five months now. The vehicles can be used for business trips in the Dresden city area and the surrounding region. As it turns out, the offer is well received by the employees.

Since the project's kick-off in July 2014, the fleet has covered over 30,000 kilometers fully electrically.

Fraunhofer Battery Bus in Test Operation

Since Monday, November 3, 2014, the Fraunhofer IVI’s battery bus (EDDA-Bus) has been operating with passengers on Dresden’s bus route 61. The Fraunhofer scientists are in charge of the technical support while the local transport company DVB is the responsible demonstration partner.

From October 14 to 18, the 14th FLORIAN Trade Show – a specialist exhibition for fire departments, fire and disaster protection – was held at the Messe Dresden. At the start of the exhibition, Saxony's State Minister of the Interior Markus Ulbig visited the Fraunhofer IVI booth, where district fire chief Karsten Neumann and Head of Department Dr. Kamen Danowski gave him a presentation on current joint developments in the field of hazard prevention.

Training for the Emergency Case

Emergency services are testing the results of the IDIRA project under real-life conditions

Polish and German emergency services were fighting a fictive flood at the river Neiße in Görlitz, Germany on October 4, 2014. The exercise featured components from the European project IDIRA, securing the smooth communication between relief forces from different countries. The next large-scale exercise in the Fraunhofer IVI-coordinated project is scheduled for Greece this November and aims at practicing multinational collaboration during fires and earthquakes. 

Fast Charging in Public Transport – Electric Driving Without Catenaries

It has been touring the streets of Dresden for a while now and passers-by are curiously watching the new bus which looks different from the DVB’s other buses. A field test with passengers will soon be carried out to evaluate this fast-charging bus in practice. The TÜV, Germany’s association for technical inspection, will have the final say on the technical certification.

Dresden Science Night 2014

Almost 1,000 visitors came to the Fraunhofer IVI for the annual Dresden Science Night in July. While in the beginning the majority took a seat in the pavilion to watch the live broadcast of the World Cup quarter final France vs. Germany, many visitors took the chance to drive one of the various electric vehicles on the institute's test track later in the evening.

Before the official start of the event, the Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport, Sven Morlok, handed over the grant notifications for the »EmiD - Electromobility in Dresden« project and performed the official kick-off by cutting the ribbon.

Day of Architecture at the Fraunhofer IVI

Once more, the Fraunhofer IVI invited the general public to the Day of Architecture which took place on June 28, 2014. The visitors came to see the renovated library designed by architect Michaela Hoppe. This project was listed as a best practice project of the Chamber of Architects in Saxony.
