InnoTrans 2026

September 22-25, Berlin

We are very proud to once again have had the opportunity to present our research at InnoTrans.

At the joint booth of the Saxony Economic Development Agency, we showcased a wide range of exciting topics. Learn more about our solutions for tomorrow's mobility and infrastructure below!

Underbody Charging System

With the underbody charging system, Fraunhofer IVI has developed a compact and secure underbody charging system. This space-saving contact system seamlessly connects the vehicle to the infrastructure, enables high charging power levels, and meets the highest safety standards. This makes it ideal for efficient automation in public transport and fleet operations.

GUW+ combines the energy supply infrastructure for light rail and tram systems with charging stations for e-buses. Integrated 2nd use battery storage units serve to lower peaks and make use of trams' extra braking energy. The system configuration function allows offering grid services and managing blackout scenarios.

The integration of fuel cell systems in vehicles is a great challenge, especially in commercial application fields such as trucks, public service buses, coaches, as well as machines used in agriculture and construction.

We support our clients and partners from the abovementioned sectors during the essential steps of implementing hybrid propulsion solutions involving fuel cell systems.

The shift to alternative drive systems opens up new opportunities, but italso presents many challenges. For example, planning and implementation often require significant effort and substantial costs upfront. Modern solutions rely on detailed route planning, intelligent charging strategies, and precise range estimates to optimize charging times and battery usage.

In addition, new business models with batteries at their center are emerging: separate leasing of the vehicles and batteries, partnerships with charging infrastructure operators, or new workshop concepts. This allows batteries to be used efficiently and mobility to be designed with the future in mind.

In order to use batteries efficiently and optimally manage daily fleet operations, reliable data and smart analytics are essential. IVImon securely transfers your vehicles’ data to the cloud and is specifically designed for fleet applications.

Decision support for Infrastructure management and maintenance

© Fraunhofer IVI

Mobility is not just about vehicles: Roads, railways, and other infrastructure are equally important components that require constant monitoring and maintenance. By leveraging new technologies in the field of sensor technology and the targeted use of data analysis methods, infrastructure maintenance can be made more efficient and cost-effective. Ideally, the maintenance interval is set so that an emerging fault is detected before it has caused a failure. This helps prevent both unnecessary maintenance work and service outages.

Our expertise in this field includes solutions for predictive maintenance, condition-based maintenance planning, and digital switch maintenance.
