Autonomous driving in the commercial vehicle sector is no longer a vision of the future – pilot projects, near-series developments, and initial commercial applications show that change has already begun.

At the 9th International VDI Conference - Autonomous Trucks, experts will discuss current technological, regulatory, and operational developments related to autonomous trucks.

As an exhibitor, Fraunhofer IVI will showcase a demonstrator of the Underbody Charging System and other solutions for fleet electrification.

On April 29, Dr. Felix Keppler will give a presentation titled "Controlling the Uncontrollable – Perception and Control for Unequipped Semitrailers in Automated Terminals and Yards," in which he will discuss innovative technologies and fields of application for the automated handling of semi-trailers.

The ITF Summit is the world's largest meeting of transport ministers and the most important global event on transport policy.

Under the motto "Funding Resilient Transport," this year's summit will examine how investments can be mobilized and financing strategies developed to strengthen the resilience of transport systems – with the aim of improving long-term connectivity, efficiency, and reliability of transport infrastructure and operations.

Under the title "Connected. Secure. Harmonised.", ITS mobility, in cooperation with Autobahn GmbH des Bundes, Fraunhofer IVI, OCA – Open Traffic Systems City Association e.V., the Association of Engineering Consultancies for Traffic Engineering (VIV), the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV), and Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF), will host the C-ITS Forum for the third time in 2026.

The aim of the event is to bring together key German stakeholders and decision-makers from politics and science, as well as infrastructure operators and public transport companies, in order to jointly advance the deployment of C-ITS.

How can vehicle and infrastructure sensors work together to generate a reliable situational picture and thus make automated driving safer? We spent three years conducting intensive research into this question as part of the VALISENS project. Our goal: to prevent accidents involving vulnerable road users and strengthen confidence in autonomous systems.

Together with VALISENS partners XITASO, LiangDao, NXP Semiconductors, and smartmicro, the results were presented to the professional public and partners at the project's closing event.
