Vehicle concepts for long trucks

Battery-electric dolly for assembling long truck combinations consisting of two semitrailers and for automation-ready, intependent operation in yards and depots.

At IAA TRANSPORTATION, Fraunhofer IVI is showcasing cutting-edge technologies for the tomorrow's logistics. Together with Van Eck Trailers B.V., we are presenting innovative solutions for zero-emission freight transport.

We will offer a glimpse into new concepts that help reduce CO2 emissions in freight transport and significantly simplify maneuvering in logistics yards: The E-dolly – an electrified converter dolly – features its own drive axle and, thanks to its independent steering system, can be controlled via remote control or even fully automated.

In the EU-funded ZEFES project, the E-Dolly was built as a prototype. In the next step, we would like to work with partners to further develop the vehicle to product maturity and obtain approval for road use. Are you interested in getting involved or testing an E-Dolly for your specific application? Please feel free to contact us!

E-Dolly – Technical Data

Applied in an EMS1/EMS2 high-capacity vehicle combination, the e-dolly could

  • reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions when used with a conventional diesel tractor,
  • extend the electric range of a battery-electric tractor,
  • support vehicle performance on demanding routes.

On logistics terminals and yards it can independently move a coupled semitrailer in remote-controlled or autonomous operation.

  • easier handling of semitrailers (e. g., reversing towards loading ramp)
  • simplified coupling/uncoupling of long truck combinations
  • fully digitalized and automated cargo handling
  • increased operational efficiency
