Fraunhofer IVI carries out research and development work to create intelligent, functionally safe, and resilient solutions for mobility and infrastructure. The institute's client target groups include industry, public transportation operators, the public sector, and academia. With a focus on automated systems in logistics and agriculture, autonomous driving and flying, vehicle and traffic safety, ticketing and fare systems in public transportation, complex security systems, and AI-supported process development and optimization, the institute offers industry-specific solutions across the entire innovation chain—from pre-competitive research to practical application.
In addition to high-performance laboratories, innovative test platforms and vehicles as well as modern hardware and software, Fraunhofer IVI's research infrastructure includes a technical center with a vehicle hall and an adjacent test track.
The institute was founded in 1999 and collaborates closely with TU Dresden, Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg and Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt.
