Survey of Overtaking Maneuvers

New Data for the Overtaking Model

In order to ensure safe overtaking, plans for new roads need to take into account certain parameters such as visual range, vertical curvature and road width. Currently, these parameters are contained in an overtaking model whose data basis is over 50 years old. In order to gain new data for the model, the Fraunhofer IVI and Airclip GmbH were commissioned to record overtaking maneuvers.

Video Sensor for the Acquisition of Road Traffic Data

Simultaneous recording of data on several lanes

Automated, Adaptive Control of Road Traffic

Conventional methods of traffic data acquisition, such as induction loops and Floating Car Data, have specific disadvantages that can be compensated by the additional application of video sensors. The Fraunhofer IVI developed a sensor that is able to automatically detect common traffic parameters in image sequences.

Intermodal Mobility Management and Information System

The mobility management and information system for the Upper Elbe Valley metropolitan area, which was developed in the intermobil project, focuses on the transport corridor »Dresden – Sächsische Schweiz«. The system collects and connects information about public transport, motorized individual transport and the region, and provides the data to the users in the shape of a traffic and tourism information system.

Operative Regional Integrated and Optimized Corridor Control in Nuremberg

The aim of the ORINOKO project was to develop practicable and financeable solution approaches for the comprehensive, city-wide identification of traffic states and for the improvement of the traffic light control system. On the basis of video detection and taxi-based floating car data (FCD), two traffic recording systems were developed and optimized that are more cost-efficient than induction loops and that can be operated comprehensively throughout the entire city area.

Road Traffic Management Using Integrated Live Cameras

Recording, Processing and Transmission of Data

Efficient mobility management aims at avoiding unnecessary traffic, shifting traffic to environmentally friendly means of transport and using the existing resources as efficiently as possible. To facilitate this, a live camera system was erected for the first time Germany that records, processes and transmits traffic state information via a radio network.

Information for Display on Mobile Devices

In order to be mobile in today's world, it is important to receive current information regardless of one's location. The necessary communication infrastructure is comprehensively available and affordable. However, software is needed that adapts and optimizes the existing content for mobile devices. The Fraunhofer IVI has developed solutions that fulfill these demands.
