Testing Capacities and Equipment

For the development of hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles with range extender, test stand configurations are required that are able to test the electric components in conjuntion with the combustion engine components . With its range of test stands, Fraunhofer IVI covers the entire field of traction components applied in diverse kinds of vehicles such as electric delivery vehicles, 12-t trucks and 18-m articulated buses.

The complete test field consists of an engine test stand, a dynamometer, battery simulators and a battery test stand, which are all networked to form one unit.

• Provision of a DC intermediate circuit of 60 to 800 V DC
• Battery simulation with up to 400 kW
• Traction motor simulation with up to 400 kW
• Driving resistance simulation for traction motors with 400 kW
  
• 400 kW maximum performance – 330 kW continuous performance
• Testing environment for real traction batteries
• Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) power demand simulation for all traction components
