Fraunhofer ALBACOPTER® Lighthouse Project impresses guests
December 6-7, 2023 | Advisory board meeting held at Fraunhofer IVI
At the close of a successful year filled with exciting tasks related to the individual technologies and the system integration, and with several public appearances at events such as the Paris Air Show, the IAA in Munich and the AIRTEC in Augsburg, a meeting was held in Dresden in the presence of the project advisory board and representatives from the Fraunhofer Headquarters.
The consortium showcased the project's current state of research in several expert presentations and with the help of numerous exhibits on topics such as flight control, AI-based emergency landing and flight monitoring, redundant on-board electronics, electrified drivetrain, rotor test rig, and recyclable light-weight materials.
For the first time, the many internal and external guests could take a look at ALBACOPTER® 0.5's finished wings, as well as fuselage and tail components, all manufactured by Leichtwerk AG in Braunschweig. The results of the ALBACOPTER® 1.0 design studies could be experienced via VR glasses. The plan to continue the excellent cooperation with Leichtwerk AG in the following years within the scope of an ALBACOPTER® 1.0 innovation partnership was agreed upon unanimously by the advisory board.
First test flights of the ALBACOPTER® 0.5 are scheduled for the spring of 2024 at the DLR's national testing center in Magdeburg-Cochstedt. The necessary permit to fly was already issued by the German Federal Aviation Authority (LBA).
